Gooday all,
By the sounds of it everyone has had an enjoyable time birding. Laura's Birthday on Saturday and we had been invited up to Mount Pleasant Station to the Five Mile and Bogie River BBQ. That must be an Atlasers nightmare. A great afternoon and evening, even though we had to put up with a slight shower.
Highlights
Watching two Striated Pardalotes race melanocephalus at a distance of 5m checking out possible nest sites in a creek bank. Magic when you even pick up the small red wingspot. One bird continually flicked its tail for a period of at least a minute, it being a quick flick.

Magic moments
Near Greentops Road Camilla and I spotted a Spotted Harrier then another. One bird landed in the long grass then rose again carrying some small branches the other bird returned and they flew close together for a short distance before breaking off. The female bird (size, it was big) carried the twigs and small branches. The bird landed on the ground twice seemingly stripping excess from the branches. Each time it rose it seemed to be carrying slightly less nesting material. The bird finally alighted on the top of a small eucalypt approx 8m in height in a most dainty and spectacular way, just dropping into the crown of the tree with the nest in the centre of the crown of the tree, well concealed by green leaves. The mate came in for a short inspection then departed again to resume his hunting while the female added the nesting material.

That's what makes birding such a great past time. This will all work out nicely with my Mother visiting next month. Last year she got the Bufbreasted Paradise Kingfisher nesting. For 2000 it looks as if it will be Spotted Harriers
