First Swift Parrots for the year

I was visiting with some friends at Clydesdale, near Hepburn Springs -
Daylesford, in Central Victoria over the weekend.  A very pleasant
surprise for me this morning was a flock of about 15 SWIFT PARROTS in
some early-flowering Yellow Gums across the road from the house.  My
first Swifties for the year - hopefully the first of many ..........

White-faced Heron                     Egretta novaehollandiae
Brown Goshawk                         Accipiter fasciatus
Wedge-tailed Eagle                    Aquila audax
Little Eagle                          Hieraaetus morphnoides
Brown Falcon                          Falco berigora
Painted Button-quail                  Turnix varia
Abundant platelets in woodland, wherever leaf litter was significantly
deeper.

Masked Lapwing                        Vanellus miles
Common Bronzewing                     Phaps chalcoptera
Crested Pigeon                        Ocyphaps lophotes
Galah                                 Cacatua roseicapilla
Sulphur-crested Cockatoo              Cacatua galerita
Long-billed Corella                   Cacatua tenuirostris
Musk Lorikeet                         Glossopsitta concinna
Small flocks passing over; some stopping to feed in Yellow Gums. Some
traffic all weekend.

Crimson Rosella                       Platycercus elegans
Eastern Rosella                       Platycercus eximius
Red-rumped Parrot                     Psephotus haematonotus
Swift Parrot                          Lathamus discolor
A flock of about 15 Swift Parrots found in the canopy of an
early-flowering Yellow Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon) over the road from
Penny & Michelle's house, about 09:00 on 9/4/2000. We watched them
feeding on the blossoms of 2-3 trees in the stand, and then they moved
on. I didn't see or hear them at any other time on Sat or Sun.

Red-browed Finch                      Neochmia temporalis

Welcome Swallow                       Hirundo neoxena
Common Blackbird                      Turdus merula
Short-beaked Echidna                  Tachyglossus aculeatus
Foraging signs abundant around house and in woodland nearby.

Rabbit                                Oryctolagus cuniculus
Very abundant.

Brown Tree Frog                       Litoria ewingii
Heard at the creek below the house.

Pale-flecked Garden Sunskink          Lampropholis guichenoti
Many seen in leaf litter in woodland.

Wood White                            Delias aganippe
A few around Box Mistletoe on Yellow Box near house.

Common Brown                          Heteronympha merope
Abundant.
