Dropped in for an hour at Long Reef late this afternoon (about 15km north of Sydney) with a few waders still around, including some very smart looking Ruddy Turnstones (about half of the 30 present were in brilliant breeding plumage). Also present were atleast 10 Grey-tailed Tattlers (all in breeding plumage) and atleast 12 Red-necked Stints (all in juv. or non-breeding plumage and are most likely going to overwinter here as they usually do) and 7 Double-banded Plovers (in juv/non-breeding plumage). Also an impressive sight were 16 Sooty Oystercatchers which I usually encounter in much smaller numbers. No signs of any Common Noddies that were roosting on the rocks last week and a brief sea watch only produced a single Wedge-tailed Shearwater but atleast 15 Australasian Gannets.
