G'day all

On my way to and from Canberra last week I managed to briefly visit all my
favourite spots in the Chiltern Box-Ironbark National Park (ne Victoria).

Some highlights:

27th Feb
Cyanide Dam. White-throated Gerygone, Turquoise Parrot, Rainbow Bee-eater.
Coyles Trail. Dollarbird, Sacred Kingfisher

28th Feb
No. 1 Dam. Latham's Snipe, Black-fronted Dotterel, Great Egret, White-necked
Heron
No. 2 Dam. Royal Spoonbill, Peaceful Dove, White-breasted Woodswallow, Little
Friarbird
Magenta Mine. Rufous Whistler, Fan-tailed Cuckoo

3rd March
Lappin Track (off Donkey Hill Ttrack). Crested Shriketit, White-winged Chough,
Restless Flycatcher, Black-chinned Honeyeater, Peaceful Dove, Rainbow bee-eater.

At all locations, Yellow-tufted, Fucous and White-plumed Honeyeaters were in
large numbers. The only places in the forest with good numbers of birds were
those with water. The dam along Lappin Track was attracting large numbers of
birds. The choughs all came down for a bath and the bee-eaters were plunging in
and then roosting a few metres from where I was sitting.

I keep hoping I'll again hear Crested Bellbirds but they do appear to be extinct
here. My last record was 20/01/1990.

Cheers

Steve
