We've had an E Spinebill resident in our Hawthorn backyard all late
spring-summer, although no evidence of breeding. One was around more
briefly last year. Brown Thornbills also seem more numerous or at least
more noisy. First time around here is Striated Pardelote. On the other
hand, Silvereyes and Greenies are both noticable by their absence. Indeed
while these were one of the most prominent species around this part of
Hawthorn a few years ago, its now quite earcatching to hear one, and I
haven't set eyes on one for a year at least. BFCS's, on the other hand, are
fairly regular here - but always going somewhere fairly fast. usually with
assistance from other birds.
All of this raises a question: is anyone out there aware of (or engaged in)
any urban/metropolitan species-mapping? I can't remember the last time
anyone posted even an inner/middle-suburban birdlist.
