Yesterday, myself, Lorne Johnson and Steven Edwards
spotlighted at Central Colo (about 70 km north-west of Sydney). We heard a
Masked Owl call about 4 times that night but failed to see the
Owl aswell as many Owlet Nightjars calling about. However we
did have very cooperative views of both White-throated Nightjars
and Tawny Frogmouth. We observed the WT Nightjar
within 10 metres as it perched on a small stump on the edge of Gees Lagoon,
for about 10 minutes (it was the same stump I saw it perched in Feb 99 and must
be its favourite).
That same afternoon, we also saw 5 Glossy Black
Cockatoos (3 male and 2 females perched in a Eucalypt), a
Rufous Night Heron, 3 Brown Cuckoo-doves, 3
Rock Warblers, a Channel-billed Cuckoo, and we
almost all had a heart attack when 2 Wonga Pigeons bursted in flight in front of
us.
We also heard Sugar Gliders and Brush-tailed Possum call
during the night.
