        I agree with Hal when he says we should adopt the American term " birding " instead of " birdwatching ".  As he says there is far more to birding than just looking at birds.
         I also go scuba diving  but it would be unthinkable to call it  " fish watching " and yet thats basically  what scuba divers do.
        When I tell people I am going scuba diving their reaction is wow, fantastic that must be great.  If I tell them I am going  " birdwatching " the response is far less flattering as to many people this conjures up pictures of  elderly people  sitting in hides peering through the gaps.
           If Birds Australia or whoever wants to attract younger people to birding they will have to do a lot more than hand out cards to the public.
