As I remember from the RAOU Atlas, and certainly from Steve Marchant's
South coast records, Lophoictinia isura is a rare resident on the South
cost. I remember Christmas Day a couple of years back. I was lying on my
back on the beach at Guerrella Bay, when one glided over not more than 50
feet directly above me. Even though I didn't have bins, all the
fieldmarks, including the pale head wre clearly visible. I've also seen
the bird near Cairns and near the Stirling Ranges in sWA.
