Gooday all,
I carryout waders counts for the QWSG at Bowen Qld.(20.00S) The sites being the Bowen Saltworks and Dalrymple Point to Doughty Creek. Over the last few months activity at both sites has been low. A great deal of waders that I would normally expect to see are not present in any large numbers. I actually observed the greatest number of Whimbrel I have seen at Bowen this year only yesterday at the Rose Bay turnoff. 37 birds were present with 5 Eastern Curlew, 11 Bar-tailed Godwit and 3 BW Stilts. No sightings of any real significance as yet for the following species. Red necked Stints, Curlew Sandpiper and Sharp-tailed Sandpiper.

From: RUSSELL DEAN WOODFORD <>

* Lower than normal numbers on migratory routes this season
* Later than usual movement of some species
* Different routes chosen for migration of some species
* Different stop-over points for some species
* Significant events that may have affected waders in breeding grounds or
en route
