Hi all,
Have just got back from a walk in the Australian National Botanic Gardens
here in Canberra, where I saw a single male Scarlet Honeyeater Myzomela
sanguinolenta. He sat contentedly in a decent sized wattle of some sort (in
full flower) preening himself for at least ten minutes, affording excellent
views to us (there were four of us and none of the other three had seen a
Scarlet HE before so they were thrilled). I never heard him call.
Although uncommon here, Scarlet Honeyeaters have been showing up every
couple of years recently, always in the Botanic Gardens as far as I know
but I may be wrong about that. For any Canberra birdos who want to try to
chase it up, it was in the Acacia section just up-slope from the rockery
section in the middle of the Gardens...
