Gooday all,
I agree with M S OKeefe that this is an interesting aspect that has not been
fully considered. However, I am still annoyed with the inability of a
supposed responsible form of Government that felt it more expedient to
dispose of the first bird deaths in the local dump.
Where is the procedure to be followed for these incidents. If it turned out
to be an exotic disease that caused the deaths, valuable time is lost by the
Councils inaction.
I recall years ago in the Cairns area the destruction of all birds at a Bird
Park due to the introduction of a disease through illegal importation of
specimens. The outbreak of Newcastle disease in NSW could be used as another
example, what procedure did they follow to identify the cause and implement
action?
May be a valuable lesson for Local Authorities, and the responsible agencies
in Qld.
