Max,
         Try hiding places such as pots , pipes, branches and so forth
scattered over the bottom of the pond; some of the fish will always escape,
and they breed fast. Comets are the fastest and in a big pond will usually
outsmart kookaburras, but I dont know about Azure Kingfishers which might
snare the smaller goldfish.Little Pied and Little Black Cormorants will wipe
out fish in an unprotected large pond. Nylon netting a few inches below the
water is invisible and the birds soon learn. Use mesh large enough to let
the fish through but not entangle the birds.
        Goldfish are carp, and throwback to wild types rapidly. they
shouldnt be put into dams or ponds which drain into carp-free waters, if in
fact there are any left in oz.
