Thanks to John Boyce and Frank O'Connor and others who have pointed out
that C&B have not split these two into separate races (yet).
I was being led by Simpson and Day who show them as nearly split ( 514a and
514b) and referred to as Little and Brush respectively, and Graham Pizzey
whose plates show very clearly the difference in facial patterns between
the lunulata in WA and the chrysoptera elsewhere, but otherwise says the
names are alternatives.
Having just been to WA and noticing the much larger amount of white on the
face and neck on the Little and being a bit of a "splitter" myself, I was
perhaps a little "overtuned" to the names used.
I still prefer Little for the WA ones though. I wonder what HANZAB will say
when it gets around to the Honeyeaters - not that I could afford it.
Cheers. Tony.
