Dear OzBirders
The furore surrounding the Sydney Harbour oil spill prompts me to voice an
on-going concern. We have seen far greater numbers of oiled seabirds along
the NSW coast this winter than normal.
The species involved include various Prions, Crested Tern, Shy and
Black-browed Albatross, Cape Petrel and Australasian Gannets. (All of
these are white below so I wonder if we miss oil on Great-winged Petrel
etc.)
Have any other obsevers noticed a similar phenomenon? I have been hoping
to obtain an oil sample by finding a beachwashed specimen or capture a live
bird but so far no luck in either department.

P.S. I bet those Phoebetria (Sooty) Albatross were just heavily oiled
Gannets! :)
