A couple of items that may be of interest to South-east Queensland birders.
Don Cameron, ranger at Bribie Island, encountered eleven Beach Stone-curlews
(Thick-knees) on a beach drive on Moreton Island on Tuesday 20/7. Seven
were in one group and the other four were further along the beach. Good
news, indeed!
Buckley's Hole, Bribie Island, is full to the brim (you almost need to swim
to get to the hide) and has a large concentration of duck. Species
yesterday, 30/7, included Musk Duck (one female) and Aus. Shoveler (one
male, one female - and they were together) which are both unusual species
for Bribie.
Today, 31/7, my local wader roost held some 20 Double-banded Plovers, most
of them in full breeding plumage, and Eastern Curlew numbers had already
increased to 344.
Moreton Island and Bribie Island are islands in Moreton Bay to the north and
west of Brisbane.
