Dear Michael,
Redrumps love the seeds of Poa annua which is probably Annual Meadow
Grass(the short winter grass which comes up and seeds everywhere,
sometimes called Canary Grass because often picked for cagebirds),
Capeweed, and also Fennel. Since local parks became tidier and Capeweed
was eliminated from our oval, we haven't had such large flocks as we
used to, here in Ivanhoe. They like the seeds of Striated Tussock too
but that is a really nasty weed. I have often seen them taking
wattleseed after it has fallen onto the ground.
I hope they will stay around for you. Raising the mower blades on the
golfcourse might be quite helpful.
