Martin O'Brien mentioned he believed aborigines still eat Magpie geese in
the NT. During Bird Week at Pajinka in 1998, we took a flight to Saibai
Island, just off the south PNG coast, and saw a guy on a scooter with a
dead goose on the back, and a poor sad live goose tied to a post in the
village (living larder). They certainly do eat them there.

A reasonably large flock was present in the small remaining area of water
in the centre - it was a desparate drought year for the island and birds
were few and far between once away from the mangroves.
