My thanks to the folks who came back with their thoughts and info about
the New Guinea Sooty Owls, your messages were extremely helpful. Sooty
Owl Tyto tenebricosa seems to be the best choice, as suspected, with
Lesser Sooty an Australian endemic. The Eungella Sooty Owls being
tenebricosa is also a nice supplementary spin-off and greatly narrows
the range gap between New Guinea and Australian birds.
