Summary,
1999 starts off with a bang! Following strong NE winds in Sydney all week
this was the first day with southerly winds, which gradually increased as
the day progressed. Generally the species numbers were down but some fine
rarities and a particularly good day for those interested in cetaceans. It
is indeed a rare event to come across any species of beaked whale no matter
what pelagic you choose. Bird wise highlights were the Buller's
Shearwater, White-necked Petrel and Sooty Tern.
