Afternoon all,

The Yellow Wagtail was still at Werribee at 9.30 this morning (7/Dec/98).
It seemed to be spending most of its time in or near (within 100 metres of)
the clump of Moonah (Melaleuca lanceolata) along the west bank of the
Little River about 100 metres south of where the track to the river mouth
heads off from the track around Lake Borrie. It was mostly perching near
the top of 1-2 metre high bushes in this area. Although it could be seen
from a car on the track, it will be easier to find and observe if you get
out of the car and walk towards the river (but be careful and vigilant to
avoid flushing it). We also saw it twice on the Lake Borrie track near the
eastern end of the nest boxes.

It took me three visits and over ten hours to see it. Within 30 seconds of
my first sighting, Neil Macumber turned up and it flew away from us (for no
apparent reason) and landed just near his moving car (200 metres from us)
and he saw it straight away. It's a mug's game.

Also, for anybody who hasn't heard, there is a two page article on
twitching in the Good Weekend supplement to The Age (and the SMH?) of last
Saturday (5/Dec/98), featuring photos of Mike Carter and a 'wandering
albatross'. The identification of the latter is dodgy, but that of the
former seems accurate, with several key field marks visible.
