Twitchathon Stuff

A couple of points I think a should mention about all these "proposals".

Originally, my idea was for a fun day out, with a bit of hot competition
between birding-aus members. I never intended to cut across what Birds
Australia does with its Twitchathon (perhaps we should have a different
name?) because they do it well and it generates important funds. I didn't
really consider sponsorships or prizes, or much else really. I just
followed on from a couple of people who suggested a second comp earlier in
the year. Anyway, the debate rages on, so I'm sure somebody will work out
something to do on some of the 364 non-Twitchathon days.

Secondly, I can see the problems for the northerners being out in the heat
of summer. Frankly, it's hard to find many birds out on a hot day, and I
really hate getting up early, so I'll concede that January is best left to
sitting by the pool and sipping dacquiris (as if...)

Thirdly, please note that NOT ONE Victorian has complained about the
prospect of the bitterly cold winds, sleet and hail that we get whenever
it's not January. Oh well, I guess we'll have to try to find a
compromise...

Please keep sending me ideas, or if you're really game, send them to the
whole list for discussion and ridicule.
