1. Whilst photographing a Tawny Frogmouth on its nest (the 'usual' spot in
Campbell Park), and admiring the fluffy white chick, already used to
striking a branch-stump pose, I noticed another adult TF perched nearby. Do
the parents take it in turns to sit on the 'nest' (or perhaps rather 'sit on
the nestling'), and have other people observed the other parent sitting
nearby? Certainly, when I've seen a sitting TF, I've never seen another bird
sitting nearby, but it could be that I've just missing it, whilst
concentrating on the sitting parent.
2. There seems to a complete lack of water-birds in the areas around
Canberra at the moment, there are a few Black and Wood Ducks nesting up
trees, and a very few Ibises about, but no herons, egrets or spoonbills;
even the Silver Gulls have disappeared from Lake Burley Griffin. I assume
that all these birds have disappeared off to where there have been floods
and so forth to breed.
