Hi All 
       I responded privately to Martin about Barking Owl calls and
distibution etc etc and would have to back up David James' description but
would add the begging call of the young is similar to the begging call of
Fig Parrots. They predate a lot of birds, adding to Lawrie's post would be
Black Butcherbirds, and there is a classic photograph of a Barking Owl with
a half eaten Jacana in a Steve Parish/Peter Slater book.

  When visiting Queenslands WET TROPICS in the WET SEASON please bring a
rain coat.  Jan to Apr yeilds 2 metres of rain mostly at night.
