Remember a year or so back when the opposition to duck shooting was charged
with being in possession of a protected species when they laid the carcasses
on the steps of the Victorian Parliament?

Coincidentally this was discussed on usenet group rec.birds just recently. 
In the US keeping feathers *is* a federal offence and many states enforce
the law.
