I have learned a lesson (again) about bird sightings - and must now retract
my very recent posting (see below) about WHP's recently seen at Warburton.
The friend who is not a bird-watcher and who saw two unusual pigeons in her
garden on a number of occasions and identified them from my Simpson & Day as
definitely White-headed Pigeons has now provided me with quite good photos
of Wonga Pigeons! Not that this isn't a pretty good sighting in itself.
While I saw White-headed Pigeons in Warburton last year I have not seen
Wonga Pigeons in the 7 years I have been visiting the area!

>Lorne's posting about a WHP in Sydney reminded me that I had not posted a
>report of 2 White-headed Pigeons seen over a period of several weeks
>recently at a private house in Warburton (80 kms east of Melbourne). I have
>no doubt from the firm identification made from my field-guide that these
>were WHP's, even though I didn't see them myself and the observers were not
>Interestingly, there were 3 WHP's at another residence in Warburton last
>year (which I, and a number of others, did see) - ?? the same birds on both
