My long lost "cousin" Andrew.

I have also seen foot tapping in Red-kneed Dotterels in the Newcastle area.
This is a fairly common foraging technique in egrets, particularly Little
Egrets, for which it is well documented.  Egrets are obviously stiring up
critters from the substrate, have seen them take small crayfish using this
technique. I don't have references at hand but try Hancock & Kushlan "The
Herons Handbook".
