I'd like to thank everyone for their responses to this topic. As I
suspected there appear to be plenty of birds that use play in their social
behaviour. I'm certainly no expert but my guess is that it's an area that
needs more work. From the responses I received it would appear that Aust.
Magpies, Galahs, Keas, Pileated Woodpeckers, Little Corellas, amongst
others all indulge in play.
Just to clear up one, possibly ambiguous point, I have observed
White-winged Choughs playing (quite roughly) on a number of occasions but
have never seen them allopreening.
