Hi everybody. The following two notices may be of interest to BIRDING-AUS
subscribers in Tasmania:

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR POSITION

BA-TAS (Birds Australia - Tasmania) was successful in gaining a NHT grant to
survey shorebirds on
the north and east coast of Tasmania. The project is being jointly
undertaken by Sally Bryant of the Threatened Species Unit, Parks and
Wildlife, and is starting around September this year. A volunteer
coordinator is needed to provide project support, to rope in helpers and to
basically do a bit of everything. About $15,000 is available for salary as
far as it will stretch with some extra support money available. You need to
be based in Tasmania.

If you want to know more, write to: BA-TAS Shorebird Project, GPO
Box 68, HOBART 7000, or email: <>

RESEARCH PROJECT - STUDENT WANTED

Feeding Ecology of Waders at Orielton Lagoon

BA-TAS and the University of Tasmania are desperately seeking an
Honours, Masters or PhD student to undertake a study of the feeding ecology
of Red necked Stint and Eastern Curlew at Orielton Lagoon, just outside
Hobart. We have some grant money to support the project and the supervision
will be jointly between BA-TAS and A/Prof. Alaistair Richardson,
Zoology Department. It is a fantastic offer for any student interested in
waders and wanting to start this year.

For more details write to BA-TAS Orielton Lagoon Project, GPO Box
68, HOBART 7000, or email: <>

Regards, Hugo.
