This was a commonplace event in my garden in Geelong when I lived there.
The congregation (perhaps even a conflagration?) often occurred in a
large Cherry Plum (Prunus sp.) tree, but sometimes in and around the
flowering Pride of Madiera plants that they were foraging in.  Groups of
30-40, making a huge din, were normal.  I believe I've seen this
activity labelled in the informal literature as a corroboree, or was I
dreaming?
