Report on a pelagic boat trip from Dunnalley (Tasmania), 11/1/98

Dunnalley is a small port on the east coast of Tasmania (about 20 km north
of Eaglehawk Neck).

Those present: Bill and Maggie Wakefield, Jo Wienecke, Warren Pittwell, Tony
Russell, Ken Cross, Megan Andrews, Tim Reid.

Weather: Dull and overcast all day (8/8 cloud). Light breeze from the NW
(F2-3) with slight seas (F2).

Activities: Departed Dunnalley 0700. Passed out of Blackman Bay 0730. Headed
out to shelf edge, stopping a few times on the way. Arrived at the shelf
edge at 1055 at 42o55S 148o19E. Stayed at the edge and a few miles beyond
until 1300. Sailed back and arrived Visscher Id 1430. Left 1505 and arrived
at Blackman Bay at 1525. Dunnalley 1610.

Water temperature ranged from 17.5oC to 17.8oC while off shelf. Boat man had
recorded sea temperatures of 20oC in the area the day before, all suggesting
EAC water (as did the birds present).
