As anticipated/feared, the Red-capped Plover episode has not turned out well.
Today (3/1/98) the parent bird was nowhere to be seen, leaving a single
hatchling on the beach to fend for itself. This was last seen being carried
off by some concerned UK visitors - hopefully to the care and attention of
Christine Wilder (until recently of Emu Tours, now resident in Margaret
River - and keen to meet local and visiting birders) - whose name and
address I gave them when it became clear that they were not intending to
leave the chick on the beach by itself.
An interesting minor avian episode now more or less concluded.
