Wagtails in central NW NSW

I've just had reported to me something potentially exciting from the Narran
NR, near Brewarrina in central NW NSW.

One of our COG members, a careful and honest observer, but no expert on
Wagtails (not many of us southerners get a chance to be!) reports an
apparent immature White or Black-backed Wagtail from a drying ephemeral lake
in the NR. There were also many waterbirds and waders. He is confident about
the wagtail, but not the species.

Any hints I can pass on to him to assist in a retrospective id? In return I
can try to get any further info required - apparently at least one ranger at
the NPWS office at Narrabri was also there (though they may be just a bit
tied up with fires at present!).
