Dear Andrew,
What you have in your yard would be a BANDY-BANDY (Vermicella annulata)
from the Genus
(VERMICELLA). It is a nocturnal species, with an average length of 60cm.
It is most
often observed on warm evenings. It is not a dangerous species. It is
inoffensive by
nature, though when handled is extreamly nervous, often knotting itself
round it's
tormentors hand. If alarmed, it puts up a very convincing bluff,
flattening it's body
which it elevates in loops often maintaining this position for some time.
IT IS NOT A DANGEROUS SPECIES. We would be interested to know the
location and habitat
type.
