In the program Australia All Over this morning on 3LO (in Melbourne) a man phoned in from Kunnanurra to say that the "storm-birds" hadn't arrived yet. They usually arrived about the 8th or 9th October and each year could be heard in the trees. Was it an effect of the smoke and haze in Indonesia that had prevented the storm-birds usual arrival in the area? Rain had fallen this year before the arrival of the storm-birds. Macka appeared non-plussed! What are "storm-birds", please? Celia M. Browne, North Balwyn, Vic. |
