Western Corellas did occur along the Swan River in the Perth area in
historic times, but disappeared around the turn of the century; the nearest
natural occurrence is now about 100 km from Perth.
However, all three Australian corellas occur in Perth as escapees (escapers?).
Also, mixed flocks can occur, and there may be hybrids.
If the birds were (Eastern) Long-billed Corellas, the reddish throat bar
should be visible, although if they were very grubby, this could be
difficult. Distinguishing Little Corella from Western Corella could be
rather difficult from a moving boat.
Nevertheless, I agree with Shane that one is most likely to see Little
Corellas in this area. This is the most common in Perth, particularly as you
go up the Swan.
Cheers,
Allan
