New Years Day Bird Count

Subject: New Years Day Bird Count

     I think read in a magazine around last New Year that there was a New 
     Years Day Garden Bird Count, and people were encouraged to get out in 
     the garden and count birds for an hour or so from 8 am on New Years 
     Day.  I believe a bearded environmental guru was associated with it -  
     Vince Serventy or Harry Butler or someone like that.
     Sorry to be so vague, but you can imagine what New Years Eve does to 
     some people.  Can anyone else be more specific?
