Surely the problem is with competition for nesting hollows (in the case of the Glossy Black Cockatoo)rather than predation of nests? I know that possums do take advantage of bird eggs as free meals, but I would have thought that competition for a limited number of nesting hollows would be a more important force on Kangaroo Island. This is obviously not related to the ground dwelling Kakapo though. Any thoughts? Rob. |
