Dear Richard, If you have only 1 day in Suva then the best place to go to is Colo-I-Suva Forest Park just up in the hills behind Suva. It is about 15 minutes drive from the city centre. You can find most of the forest endemics here. A place called the Waterfall Track on the road up just before the forest station is also good but may be difficult to locate without someone showing you the way. The forest around Joske's thumb - (just on the road out westwards) is good but access is difficult these days without having someone with you who knows the way.
