Seen at BLAKSLEY's (?) ANCHORAGE, 9 km south of DUNWICH, North Stradebroke
Island. At high tide wadr roost on southern side of anchorage.
This could be only the second Australian sighting! One seen SWAN HILL, Vic.
in 1976.

in the HANZAB Volume 3, there are four "acceptable" (ie Records Appraisal
Committee [RAC] or specimens) records of the Grey Phalarope for Australia
(Lake Woorinen Vic. Mar 1976, Magrath Flat SA July 1989, Discovery Bay Vic.
May 1992 [beachwashed] and Port Fairy Vic. July 1992) and three published
records not submitted to the RAC (Lake Bolac, Vic. April 1986, Rottnest
Island WA Oct. 1986 and Eyre Bird Observatory WA Sept. 1991). I think that
there was also another record recently that was published as an Unusual
Sighting Report in the Bird Observer newsletter (anyone with a better memory
than me?).
The Lake Bolac bird was also written up as an Unusual Sighting Report which
I examined (in the course of writing an account of the Port Fairy bird) and
can agree was a good identification. The curious thing about this former
record was that a record of a Red-necked Phalarope was also made in April
1986 in Victoria but at Lake BULOKE! Confusing don't you think????
Back to Queensland. Julian, could you please place some info on Birding-aus
about the Qld bird. Are you lucky enough to have it in breeding plumage????
