There is a report of a White-cheeked Honeyeater from Anakie Gorge near
Geelong on Saturday 23/11/1996. As there seems to be only two previous
Victorian records (both from far-East Gippsland), this record is well worth
chasing up. Major points of identification, the large white cheek patch and
dark eye were seen but imperfect views prevented good assessment of the
length of the bill.

The bird was foraging with New Holland Honeyeaters (including some dark-eyed
immatures) under the cover of bracken adjacent to the creek in Anakie Gorge.
To find the site, go to the main picnic area at the head of the gorge (on
Switch Road in the Brisbane Ranges National Park). Walk along the walking
track c.1/3 of the way down the gorge to where the creek (on the right hand
side of the track) turns sharply left. On the right bank of the creek at
this point, there is a patch of dense bracken near a small steep side gully.
This bracken is where the bird was seen.

Good luck!!!!
