Just a note to inform people that the first ever banding of a Bullers Shearwater in Australia took place on December 18th 1995 on Cabbage Tree Island, off Port Stephens, NSW. It was the forth record of Bullers Shearwater on the island, the others being April 1995, February 1992 and December 1960. All but the earliest record were of birds found on the surface and not associated with a burrow. To date the only other record of Bullers Shearwater on land comes from Montague Island, off Narooma, NSW, again in 1960. The island is being fairly closely montiored for Gould's Petrel, so any further appearences of Bullers Shearwater will hopefully be detected. If you have ay further questions then email me. cheers Nicholas Carlile Enviromental Survey and Research Division NSW NPWS. |
