G'day all,

I've got to agree with Lawrie, I find the term Thick-knee exceptionally
ugly and clumsy.

...So I thought, if we want something to describe birds from the family
Burhinidae, why not call them burhinies (singular burhiny, pronounced
"Bernie" - or for that matter make it Bernie and be done with it).

So in Australia, we'd have the Bush Bernie, and the Beach Bernie. Nice and
simple, rolls off the tongue, and reminiscent, to my distractable mind at
least, of Bushfires, sand dunes (or berms at least) and even the good old
traditional Aussie BBQ!

But could we convince the rest of the world to adopt such a name?
