Dear colleagues,

Through our cooperative partnership with the University of Miami, the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center's Marine Mammal Branch in Miami, FL is excited to announce that we are hiring an Acoustic Oceanographer to join our growing passive acoustics team.

We are seeking to fill (1) full-time position at either the Postdoctoral Associate or Assistant Scientist level.  The successful candidate will work with our team at NOAA and our international collaborators on a large-scale passive acoustic monitoring project (LISTEN Gulf - Long-term Investigations into Soundscapes, Trends, Ecosystems, and Noise in the Gulf of America/Gulf of Mexico).  Research topics will include improving cetacean density estimation and risk assessments using acoustic localization and tracking techniques, and improving our understanding of anthropogenic noise, sound propagation, and the effects of quieting technologies on the Gulf soundscape and its marine fauna.  We seek candidates with strong quantitative skills, coding experience, and an undestanding of acoustic oceanography.  Experience with analyses in acoustic localization, sound propagation modeling, quantitative noise analyses, or seismic airgun surveys is preferred.

To apply, this position at the University of Miami can be found on the UM job site (www.miami.edu/careers) by searching under Staff Positions for requisition  R100101936 (Postdoctoral Associate)  or R100101937 (Assistant Scientist).

Please share this info with any potential applicants and feel free to contact me at with any questions.

Best wishes,
Melissa
