Dear Bioacoustics-L Community,
Ocean Science Analytics (OSA) is pleased to share the release of our DeepAcoustics User Guide & Tutorial, along with several free, open-access tools we've developed to support bioacoustic research and analysis. DeepAcoustics – New User Guide & Tutorial DeepAcoustics is a GUI-based deep-learning tool for training, testing, and deploying acoustic detectors without requiring users to write code. It is currently MATLAB-based, and we are exploring the possibility of a future Python conversion. Although our examples focus primarily on marine mammal vocalizations, reflecting our expertise at OSA, DeepAcoustics is not restricted to marine species or any particular taxonomic group. The underlying approach can be applied to a wide range of biological sounds, including terrestrial and aquatic species. In fact, DeepAcoustics originated from DeepSqueak, which was developed for detecting rodent ultrasonic vocalizations and remains an excellent tool for that application! Our new User Guide & Tutorial walks users through the DeepAcoustics workflow, helping researchers get started with the software and develop custom acoustic detectors for their own datasets. User Guide & Tutorial: Download DeepAcoustics: Additional Free Bioacoustic Tools We've also developed several other tools that may be useful across a variety of bioacoustic applications:
All tools are free to download or use online, depending on the application. Explore OSA's Bioacoustic Resources: Bioacoustic Analysis and Technical Support OSA also provides technical support for passive acoustic monitoring projects, including large acoustic dataset processing, custom detector development, deep-learning network training and evaluation, acoustic analysis, and data visualization. Our primary expertise is in marine mammal acoustics, but several of our tools and analytical approaches are applicable to other bioacoustic research areas. We welcome feedback on our tools and would love to hear how researchers working with different taxa might put them to use! Regards, Liz Ferguson
