Dear colleagues
Carmen Winters (CC) and I are conducting an online research study on how people categorize pig vocalizations, and we are inviting participants from a wide range of backgrounds. We are now launching the second wave of data collection. This wave involves a
new and distinct task, separate from the first study. If you participated in the first wave, you are very welcome to take part again. If you did not participate before, you can still join without any problem.
We are explicitly interested in participation from:
• people with professional or practical experience with animals (e.g., veterinarians, animal caretakers, farmers, animal welfare professionals),
• people with experience in sound or listening-related fields (e.g., musicians, bioacousticians),
• and people without any particular experience with animals.
In the task, you will listen to short audio recordings and group the sounds into categories. No prior knowledge is required. The task takes approximately 20–30 minutes and can be completed online.
The survey is designed for completion on a tablet, laptop or desktop computer and is not optimised for smartphones or tablets.
We do not collect identifying information such as names or dates of birth. You may participate if you are 18 years or older and have no hearing impairment that would substantially affect sound perception. Participation is unpaid, voluntary, and you may stop
at any time before submitting your responses.
To preserve the scientific quality of the study, we kindly ask that you do not discuss the task or the sounds with others until data collection is complete.
If you know others, with or without experience with animals, who might be interested in contributing, we would appreciate it if you could forward this invitation to them.
Kind regards
Wim
