Dear all,

Two news items from BioDCASE, the bioacoustics data challenge:

(1) The datasets have now been released for the 6 challenge tasks:
https://biodcase.github.io/challenge2026/

The datasets cover:
      1. Multi-channel alignment
      2. Supervised detection of strongly-labelled Antarctic blue and fin
whale calls
      3. Bioacoustics for tiny hardware
      4. Active Learning for Bioacoustics
      5. Cross-Domain Mosquito Species Classification
      6. Bird Counting

(2) We have published a preprint of a journal article about BioDCASE,
giving an in-depth consideration of task design as well as the outcomes
from last year:
https://doi.org/10.64898/2026.04.02.716062

Please do share these with students/colleagues interested in taking part
in animal sound analysis this year!

Best wishes
Dan Stowell and the BioDCASE organising committee
