Acoustical Society of America Fall 2014 Meeting:  Indianapolis, 27-31 Oct. 2014

Special Animal Bioacoustics Session: The Use of Passive Acoustics for Estimation of Animal Population Density

We are hosting a special session at the next Acoustical Society of America conference in Indianapolis (27-31 Oct, 2014).  The session will be focused on the techniques used for acoustic-based population density estimation.  Currently, the most widely used methods for obtaining density estimates involve visual sightings; however, for elusive species and in remote areas, passive acoustic monitoring offers a cost-effective alternative.  We hope to have a range of talks focusing on both current and potential applications to terrestrial and marine species.  Therefore, we encourage abstract submissions from researchers who may be monitoring population sizes using acoustics, or would like to explore the potential of doing so.  The abstract submission deadline is June 23rd, 2014 and details can be found at http://acousticalsociety.org/content/fall-2014-meeting

Many thanks,

Tina Yack and Danielle Harris
