The Parks Bioacoustics Laboratory in the Department of Biology at Syracuse University seeks a full-time laboratory assistant. Research in the lab focuses on behavioral ecology and acoustic communication (http://www.personal.psu.edu/sep20). Current projects involve bioacoustics research with a variety of species, ranging from marine mammals to amphibians and will be moving to Syracuse University in January 2012. We are seeking a motivated individual to join the new lab in Syracuse, NY.


A two to four year degree is required. A B.S. or B.A. in Biology or a related field and experience with behavioral field research, acoustic analysis, database management and/or GIS is preferred. The candidate must be self-motivated and interested in collaborating with the PI and students on all aspects of the research process. Duties will include both time in the laboratory and field data collection. Laboratory duties include managing laboratory equipment; archiving and maintaining laboratory databases; and analysis of acoustic and behavioral datasets. Field data collection will include acoustic recordings and behavioral observations of a variety of species in field locations along the east coast of the United States.
