I've just completed the 2nd annual Acoustic Ecology Institute Spotlight
Report on Ocean Noise, which covers new science findings and
legal/regulatory developments that took place in 2007. As with other AEI
Special and Spotlight Reports, it's designed to offer a ten to fifteen
minute overview on the topic, and includes links to further information and
source materials cited. It will be useful as a synthesis for those active in
the field, and as an update for members of the press or public interested in
these issues.

You'll find sections focusing on moderate noise sources, seismic surveys,
and naval sonars, as well as some important odds and ends from the research
community, and a look ahead at 2008. Much of the material will be familiar,
but I suspect that there will be some field research summaries and links to
programs and reports that are new to most readers.

Please forward this message to any colleagues who you feel may be
interested. And, of course you can feel free to link to the report or
forward the pdf as you wish. Feedback of any kind is most welcome.

The report is available to read online or to download as a Word or pdf at:

You can also reply to me and ask me to send you a pdf copy.

Other AEI Special Reports and Spotlight Reports, covering topics including
annual IWC scientific committee noise developments, the MMC advisory
committee, active sonars, Yellowstone Winter Use, Forest Service travel
management planning, wind turbine noise, and coalbed methane noise, can be
found at

Thanks much,
