Hi all, I was hoping to visit Halmahera this year having previously been twice to Morotai next door, both islands are in North Maluku. I was in contact with the owner of Weda Resort, Rob, who sadly advised he will not be reopening the resort. Alarmingly the reasons he gave were due to a new nickel mine, car battery factory, stainless steel factory, power plants and 35,000 new employees. He also stated that there has been much illegal logging going on in the nearby forest and that any outsider can be considered a threat to the people now and that there are many conflicts between and within families.
